API Evangelist is a blog dedicated to the technology, business, and politics of APIs. It was started in 2010 by Kin Lane to better understand what was happening after the mobile phone and the cloud was unleashed on the world. Over the last nine years it has worked to define as many stops along the API life cycle as we could, for consideration across different API implementations.

  • Issues - Showcasing what the open issues are, letting people know they are outstanding, saving the need to report.
  • Status RSS - Providing an RSS feed for a status dashboard, allowing users to receive updates on any website, and via any RSS client.
  • Status Dashboard - A single location, at dedicated subdomain, providing status update(s) for all API resources, giving developers a place to go when looking to see if platform is available.
  • Status History - Providing a history of status, usually by day, and showing results month by month, or week by week, as long as status has been tracked for an API.

  • Change Log - A detailed list of changes have been made to an API platform, giving consumers a single place they can go to learn about what changes have been made.
• Future
  • Road Map - A detailed list of what additions and changes are being planned as part of API operations, giving consumers a place where they can go learn about what is next in an APIs evolution.
  • Idea Submission - Allow for the submission of ideas, using the Github issue management, or other system, giving API consumers the ability to potentially contribute to the API road map.

I am always working to add more building blocks, and regularly step back to see how they all fit together, trying to understand the world of Road Map works. Tracking on the common patterns being used across different areas of the API sector.
